Construction KPIs / Tender-to-actual margin variance
Tender-to-actual margin variance
Construction KPI · benchmark Within 3 points
How to calculate it
Tender margin minus actual margin at completion, by job, then averaged and ranged.
Why it matters
Tells you whether your pricing is wrong or your delivery is. Consistently negative means the estimator is optimistic; random means site control.
The Taxtful view
Review every completed job against its tender within a month of final account, with the estimator and the site manager in the same room.
Every Taxtful client sees this number on their Taxtful View each month, with the benchmark alongside. Benchmarks are drawn from our own client base and published sector data; ranges vary by trade and contract type.
